A new musical set against the backdrop of the Sept. 11 terror attacks will premiere on Broadway in 2017. 

"Come From Away," is set to make it's debut on the Great White Way after tryouts in the Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C., and the Mirvish Theatre in Toronto. 

No casting, theater or specific dates have been announced yet for the New York City run.

The musical is set in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes were forced to make emergency landings following the 2001 attacks. The 6,579 passengers doubled the population of the small town for a week. “Come From Away” explores how these people found humanity and hope during our nation’s dark crisis.

Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein wrote the book and score, while Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (“Memphis”) will direct.

The show transfers to Broadway after critically acclaimed, sold-out premiere engagements at La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre -- which landed “Come From Away” on the “Best Theater of 2015” lists for the Los Angeles Times and Seattle Times, among others.
