NBC’s top-rated “The Voice” kicked off week two of battle rounds Tuesday, with celebrity coaches mostly united on which hopefuls should advance to the live shows. Here’s how they fared:
Team Cee Lo:
This week Cee Lo Green tapped Tje Austin and Nakia to step into the ring first and perform the Ne-Yo hit “Closer.” Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and Blake Shelton said they were impressed with both artists but would give Texas-based Nakia the nod. But Cee Lo’s assistant coach, Monica, said she liked Tje’s silky voice the most. During blind auditions, Nakia had won over Cee Lo by performing his hit “Forget You.” On Tuesday, Cee Lo called both singers “extensions” of him and said they reflected his “good taste.” Still, he went with Nakia.
Country star Blake Shelton and assistant coach Reba McEntire pitted Jared Blake, a rocker and father of six, against the husband and wife duo Elenowen. The artists were given “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye, with the celebrity coaches firmly united behind Jared. “I love that this was so wrong for you,” Adam told the bandana-sporting singer. Blake Shelton said he felt bad he’d “begged” Elenowen to join his team during blind auditions before giving Jared his okay to advance.
Last week, Adam said he forgot that he was on a competition show while watching Tarralyn Ramsey and Frenchie Davis perform a duet to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” He was lucky because Christina had to make the choice to send one of them – Tarralyn -- home. This week, it was Adam’s turn to choose between Javier Colon and Angela Wolff, whose voices similarly complemented each other’s in the ring on “Stand by Me.” Blake called Angela beautiful but then cooed at Javier. Adam said he wanted both singers to “feel good” about their performances then gave Angela the boot.

Souful crooner Justin Grennan had his work cut out for him, having been paired with throaty rocker Beverly McClellan and told to sing “Baba O’Riley” by The Who, a classic tune he didn't know. After the performance, Adam told Justin he'd "thought they were sending the lamb to slaughter” and that Beverly would “murderize” him. But he said Justin killed the song, a sentiment Blake echoed in a backhanded way. “You look like the guy who works at my bank. But you have this rock inside of you,” Blake said. Christina sided with Cee Lo, who said Beverly had clearly dominated the battle. “Thank you for making my co-coaches insanely jealous,” Christina said before advancing Beverly into the next round.
The battles continue next week.
