Frenchie, Vicci Advance in “The Voice” Battle Round

Four hopefuls cut on Week 3

Reality TV makes for rough justice.

NBC’s top-rated “The Voice” kicked into “battle” mode Tuesday, where would-be pop stars were forced to square off against each other in duets. Teams of eight will be whittled down to teams of four before viewers crown the winner.

On Tuesday, celebrity mentors sent four musicians packing after giving rave reviews about them during blind auditions.

First up, Tarralyn Ramsey sang against Frenchie Davis, the onetime “American Idol” wannabe booted from Fox over past racy photos.

After the pair sang a duet of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” coach Adam Levine of Maroon 5 said he forgot it was a competition because he was so engrossed in the singers’ duet.

It fell to Christina Aguilera to decide which member of her team should go, and the pop star's assistant coach, Sia, was at a loss to offer advice. Aguilera chose to keep Davis in the competition.

“America finally gets the chance to vote for me,” the Broadway-trained singer said after learning her fate.

For the second battle of the night, coach Blake Shelton pitted country crooner Patrick Thomas against Tyler Robinson, the redheaded singer he likened to a relative of Drew Carey last week.

After first warning Robinson to reel in his vocal acrobatics, Shelton said he was impressed enough with the singer’s take on Elvis’ “Burning Love” to keep him on his group of four.

Next up was Levine’s team, and he asked Casey Weston and Tim Mahoney to perform “Leather and Lace.”

“It’s hard to mess with Stevie Nicks,” Levine told Weston after the battle, but added she nailed the song and deserved a spot on his team.

The final match-up of the night was Vicci Martinez vs. Niki Dawson, who Cee Lo Green told to perform Pink’s “Perfect.”

Levine called it the best duet of the night, while Shelton said Green would come to regret pairing the two as one of the worst mistakes of his life.

“You got this war dance,” Green said of Martinez’s moves on stage before he picked her as the night’s winner for his team.

Next week, the battles begin anew.
