A day after making the entire U.S. military swoon when she accepted a YouTube invitation to the Marine Corps Ball shot by Marine Sgt. Scott Moore, actress Mila Kunis continues her endearing publicity assault.
The 27 year-old actress appears with an ice coffee and little else on the cover of the new issue of "GQ," and the interview inside reveals her off-kilter take on Hollywood and her career.
"It’s hard to be funny in general," says Kunis. "I think I have a good sense of humor, but I’m not, like, a joke-teller. I get the jokes, which is sometimes half the battle. Believe me, I have no idea why anyone hires me."
The "Friends with Benefits" star got her start in comedy as a 14 year-old, landing a role in the long-running sitcom "That 70s Show." She also voices "Meg" on the hit animated comedy "Family Guy," and scored big laughs in films like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Extract."
Even with this solid funny-making foundation, she reveals that it's difficult for women to be, well, taken seriously at comedy - because prejudice and looks get in the way.
"You want the attention to go to the joke itself rather than be distracted by who's delivering it," she says. "But look at 'Bridesmaids.' That movie's full of beautiful women who are hysterical. I'm so proud of those ladies. You have no idea how hard it is for a woman in this business. A lot of people don't even think women are funny. It's f***ed-up, but you have to deal with guys like that."
She admits, too, that her own sense of humor is far from feminine.
"Put me at a table with five guys making d*** jokes and I will be right there with them. And, uh, I'm on 'Family Guy.' I've been on that show for so long that I don't get grossed out by anything."
Kunis, who recently broke up with longtime boyfriend Macauley Culkin, confirms her single status, and shows no plans of changing it any time soon.
"I wouldn't dare wish myself upon anybody at this point in my life! My shooting schedule is crazy. I'm a nomad till January."
"Friends with Benefits" opens everywhere July 22nd.
