Tegan & Sara had to call it off early with New York a few weeks ago due to illness. But they're back this week, and we've had even more time to absorb the delightful Heartthrob, which is a bit heavier on the dance jams than in the past, but has enough heartache, wit and jubilation to fit neatly in to their discography. Hopefully the Quin Sisters will stay well rested and healthy so we don't have to wait another month to dance along with "Closer" or get fresh banter from of one of the best comedy teams in the music business.
Wednesday, Feb. 20, Deerhoof, Dal Niente, Marcos Balter at Merkin Concert Hall, $25
This show, which is past of the Ecstatic Music Festival, will feature the experimental ensemble Dal Niente and arty Brooklyn indie rockers Deerhoof performing works by the composer Marcos Balter. A normal Deerhoof show is already weird and wonderful thing, so a performance at a festival designed to promote and encourage experimental music should be really darn out there.
Wednesday, Feb. 20, Solange at Webster Hall, $25
Solange's recent EP True was released last November, which was a bit early. A bold blend of New Wave pop and brassy funk, True will eventually be the soundtrack to all of your summer BBQs. But it's too cold for such things now, isn't it? But you know what? You shouldn't let the weather stop you. Brave the cold, hit this show and dance like you're in a spring break of your mind.
Thursday, Feb. 21, Philip Glass, Jim James, Rahzel, Patti Smith, tUnE-YaRds, Ariel Pink, Tenzin Choegya lat Carnegie Hall

With Philip Glass serving as artistic director and all these artist geniuses in one room, this is bound to be a wild night. It will probably be an evening of experimental, boundary breaking work, though it would be worth showing up even if everyone just teamed up to cover Justin Beiber's Believe. Actually, that would be amazing. It probably won't happen though. But maybe?
