Baseball superstar Mike Trout, Super Bowl champion Eli Manning, “Good Times” actor John Amos, and film star Danny Aiello are among this year’s nominees for the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
Others nominated Tuesday include “Addams Family” cartoonist Charles Addams of Westfield; “Red Badge of Courage” author Stephen Crane of Newark; writer Gay Talese of Ocean City; attorney and former Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff of Elizabeth; Grammy-winning singer Cissy Houston of Newark, and legendary Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer.
“We have inducted heroes from all walks of life into the New Jersey Hall of Fame,” said Jon Hanson, chairman of the hall. “This year’s class of nominees reflect the varied accomplishments and backgrounds that have characterized the hall of fame since its formation.”
Winners will be announced in mid-July, and an online induction ceremony will be held in October; the induction has previously been held at the Asbury Park Convention Hall.
Trout, of Vineland, is a three-time Most Valuable Player in the American League with the Los Angeles Angels. Manning, the retired New York Giants quarterback, won two Super Bowls. He resides in Summit.
Amos, who starred as James Evans Sr. in the 70s sitcom “Good Times,” about an African American family living in a Chicago housing project, and played the adult Kunta Kinte character in the groundbreaking TV miniseries “Roots,” was born in Newark.

Aiello, whose films include “Do The Right Thing,” The Godfather Part II” and “The Last Don,” lived in Ramsey and Saddle River.
Other sports nominees include NBA star Rick Barry, who grew up in Roselle Park; heavyweight boxer Gerry Cooney, of Fanwood; New York Giants star Monte Irvin, who lived in Orange and was one of the first African Americans to play in major league baseball; and former Rutgers and New York Liberty basketball star Sue Wicks.
Performing arts nominees include singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter of Princeton; and comedians Buddy Hackett of Fort Lee and Flip Wilson of Jersey City.
Others include authors Joyce Kilmer, of New Brunswick, and Fran Lebowitz, of Morristown, and jazz guitarist and singer George Benson, of Englewood.
The public can vote for nominees in five categories at www.njhalloffame.org through the end of June.
