"Finding Neverland," the musical adaptation of the 2004 Oscar-winning film about the life of "Peter Pan" author J.M. Barrie, will fly away from the Great White Way on Aug. 21, 2016.

At closing, the production will have played 33 previews and 565 regular performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Directed by Diane Paulus ("Waitress"), "Finding Neverland" features a score by Take That's Gary Barlow and Grammy-winner Eliot Kennedy, with a book by James Graham. The musical currently stars "Les Miserables" alum Alfie Boe as Barrie and Laura Michelle Kelly as widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, whose children inspire Barrie to craft "Peter Pan."

The musical was the first to be produced by Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, who overhauled much of show's creative team and cast during the show's development. Despite strong sales around opening, "Finding Neverland" opened to mixed critical reception and was completely shut out of the 2015 Tony nominations.

Last week, the musical brought in nearly 40 percent of its potential gross. It will not recoup its $20 million investment.

Still, Weinstein is planning big things for "Finding Neverland." A national tour will launch this fall in Buffalo. Productions are being planned for London and Asia. And in a full-circle moment, Weinstein intends to make a film version of the musical.
