Too Far? Cast of ‘Preacher' Slammed for Explicit Depiction of Jesus Christ in Recent Episode

After years of pushing the envelope, did Seth Rogen finally go too far?

Rogen, the comedic actor who serves as producer on the AMC hit "Preacher," took fire on social media following the most recent episode, "Dirty Little Secret," which depicted Jesus Christ engaging in a number of sexual acts the night before the Last Supper. Critics deemed the episode "vile" and "repulsive."

The television series is based on a comic book about a modern-day preacher who is losing his faith and encountering demonic entities and monsters as he literally searches for God, who's gone missing. The show stars Dominic Cooper, Joseph Gilgun and Oscar nominee Ruth Negga.

Creators of the show cast Tyson Ritter, lead vocalist in the All-American Rejects, to play Jesus Christ. Before the episode aired, Rogen took to social media saying even he was surprised the graphic episode would be allowed to air as filmed.

Following its airing many critics took to social media condemning the episode, with some calling for a boycott of the AMC network.

Rogen is no stranger to courting controversy. He took similar criticism in 2016 after starring in the animated film "Sausage Party," which culminated in a graphic food orgy that left many speechless.

Rogen was also at the center of an international incident in 2014 after co-starring in "The Interview" with James Franco, which depicted the assassination of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

When the film was released, North Korea retaliated with a cyberattack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, knocking out the studio's computer network, and threatened to release sensitive data supposedly stolen from Sony servers.
