Michael Strahan and Nicole Murphy Call Off Their Engagement

Reps say the couple's long-distance relationship and work schedule has been tough

Michael Strahan and Nicole Murphy have decided to end their engagement.

A rep for the retired football player and now morning talk show host tells E! News, "They love each other very much but with the distance and work schedule it has been hard to maintain the relationship."

Strahan first began dating the VH1 star and model back in 2007, and the duo has nine children between them.

The 46-year-old beauty was previously married to Eddie Murphy, while the 42-year-old soon-to-be football Hall of Fame-er was once married to Jean Muggli.

The two have been engaged since 2009, and have kept fairly quiet about their personal lives throughout their relationship.

In a recent interview with Ebony magazine, the Good Morning America co-host gushed that Murphy was the perfect woman for him because she was so family-centric.

"It's great. As a divorced man, you just want somebody around your kids who's respectful and will treat them like her own. When you understand that, there's never any issue. We laugh and are at graduations and birthday parties, you know...all that stuff."

He added, "I love the kids and the family. For us, it's key that we maintain normalcy. We have a great life. People can buy into their own celebrity, and that's a dangerous thing."

People magazine was the first to report the story.
