Tom Cruise's Residence Targeted in Possible “Swatting” Case

Beverly Hills police responded to the actor's residence after receiving a 911 call in what appears to be the latest prank involving a celebrity home and law enforcement

Police responded to the residence of actor Tom Cruise on Thursday after a reported emergency, but the call appears to be another case of celebrity "swatting" -- concocting a report to police with the intent of prompting an emergency response.

The Beverly Hills Police Department received a 911 call about 11:50 a.m. warning of an armed robbery in progress in the 1100 block of Calle Vista, BHPD Sgt. Renato Moreno wrote in a statement.

"Upon arrival, officers made contact with private security at the residence and conducted a search of the location. It was determined the residence belonged to actor Tom Cruise, and no emergency was discovered," Moreno wrote.

No members of the Cruise family were home at the time, according to police.

Ashton Kutcher, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Simon Cowell have all been the targets of swatting calls. In November, Beverly Hills police responded to the "X-Factor" judge's home after receiving a 911 call, but officers said the call was a false report of an emergency.

In October, officers swarmed the home of Kutcher after a false report of shots fired. A juvenile was arrested in December in connection with the Kutcher and Bieber cases.
