‘Terminator' Director McG Talks Christian Bale Blow-Up

“Terminator Salvation” director McG took the stage at New York Comic Con on Saturday to showcase a six-minute trailer for his upcoming film — but ended up defending its star, Christian Bale.

“The film set is a very passionate place and it happens,” McG told reporters of the now-infamous altercation between the actor and Shane Hurlbut, the film’s director of photography and the target of a three-and-a-half minute expletive-filled explosion from Christian that leaked onto the Internet last week. “The whole thing got a little bit heated.”

In fact, McG noted, the pair are friends.

”[Christian] and Shane are buddies,” he said. “We finished the movie together. We did some additional photography about a month ago and it was just one of those moments… I can speak on all our behalf, that we got a little fired up.”

“Christian has taken responsibility for the way he acted,” he continued.

The star called in to LA radio station KROQ’s “Kevin & Bean” morning show on Friday to apologize for his actions, calling himself “out of order.”

But McG said the bigger issue was the leak, not the encounter.

“The set is a safe place and the bigger violation is anything on a movie set can get leaked out,” he said. “That’s really not fair and I hope it doesn’t color filmmaking in the future.”
