The 23-year-old has signed a record deal with Universal Republic through Time-Act Music, Billboard reported.
The actress' music is described as "electro-pop edge," and she's already logged many hours in the studio with producers whose credits include work with pop superstars Usher, Fergie, Pink and Justin Timberlake.
"I'm thrilled to be welcomed into the Universal Republic fold," Leighton said in a statement released to the mag. "Their reputation for nurturing artists combined with a willingness to break new ground makes it the ultimate environment for me to enjoy making music and explore my own creative boundaries."
Leighton's album is expected to drop in fall 2009.
