U2 snuck their way onto the quad at Fordham University this morning to play a "secret" show as a tune-up for the tour to promote their latest album, "No Line on the Horizon."
With the aid of "Good Morning America," the biggest band in the world had the Bronx campus hopping by 8 a.m., reported The New York Times.
Entry to the campus grounds required a student I.D., which left some fans rather frustrated.
"How can they hide a concert in there, where you can’t see it from outside?" Chris McCluskey said to The Times as he patrolled the perimeter looking in vain for a breach in security. "I would have been better off going up to my roof to watch."
Liz Jones and her friends, in town from Grand Rapids, Mich., came to New York hoping to see the band; they had much better luck. After being turned away at several gated entrances, they finally happened upon a kindly security guard who told them, "O.K., I’m going to turn my head now. I didn’t see anything."
Earlier this week the Irish rockers were feted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who had a stretch of West 53rd temporarily renamed in honor of the band. Tonight the band will conclude an unprecedented five-night stand on "Late Show With David Letterman."
