Turns Out, Age Difference Was a Factor in Joel's Divorce

She wanted to go in the city, he wanted stay home and polish his fenders.

Billy Joel's marriage to a 27-year old went south for the most predictable of reasons, the Post reports:

"It really was just an age thing," a source close to Katie Lee Joel said yesterday of her separation. "She loves the city, she loves to go out and have fun and he prefers to stay at home."

When Joel -- who at 60 is just shy of being able to collect Social Security -- isn't on the road touring, he likes to tinker with his antique motorcycle collection at home on Long Island and sail on his yachts.

And, so the man who once lectured wagearners saving for a Cadillac-ack-ack-ack now apparently prefers time with his toys over a night out with a beautiful woman.

The narrative of the two naturally growing apart is nicer than the other widely reported story about the Pianoman fuming as Katie Lee cavorted with Israeli designer (and Gen-Y member) Yigal Azrouel. Sources told The Daily News this week that Joel and Azrouel were seen dirty dancing together in Miami this year, adding that in unguarded moments Azrouel referred to her as "my girlfriend."

Reps for the Joels had insisted that Azrouel was just a friend and that Billy was happy to skip the parties, fashion shows and fundraisers his younger wife enjoyed.

Don't worry about Joel's finances: The Post reports the 100-million-album-seller has an "ironclad prenuptial agreement."
