Madonna, Ritchie Calling It Quits?

Madonna and her husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, are getting divorced after nearly eight years of marriage, British newspapers report

British newspapers have reported that Madonna and her husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, are calling it quits after nearly eight years of marriage.

The Sun and Daily Mail cite unnamed sources in reporting that the couple hope to have their divorce completed by Christmas.

Madonna's spokeswoman in London is declining comment; Ritchie's mother has told reporters the family won't be making any statement to the media.

The Sun said that Madonna had wanted to wait until her "Sticky and Sweet" tour wraps up in Brazil in December before announcing the split.

This is the second time this year that their marriage has been in the news. Over the summer, Madonna was linked -- unfairly, she said -- to the break-up of New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and his ex-wife Cynthia. Madonna said then that there were no plans for a divorce.

Madonna and Ritchie married in December 2000 at a Scottish castle. They have two children. Madonna also has a daughter from a previous relationship.

The 50-year-old singer will perform concerts Wednesday and Thursday in Boston.
