Madonna: “I Don't Support Drug Use and I Never Have”

Singer says she wasn't making on-stage ecstasy reference after taking heat from Deadmau5

Pop icon Madonna said she never meant to imply she supported drug use in an on-stage comment Saturday that drew criticism from DJ-producer Deadmau5.

Madonna tweeted late Monday a photo of herself wearing Minnie Mouse ears and used a thought bubble to explain what she meant in invoking a slang word for ecstasy, Molly, during a surprise appearance at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

“From one mouse to another. I don't support drug use and I never have," Madonna wrote. "I was referring to the song called 'Have You Seen Molly' written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my last album.”

The posting came amid fallout over Madonna having asked Ultra Music Festival attendees, “how many of you in this crowd have seen Molly?” Madge has already taken flack for her club-friendly album, titled "MDNA," an allusion to the drug MDMA, also known as ecstasy.

Deadmau5 accused the 53-year-old Material Girl of glamorizing the drug, calling out the singer’s comments on his Facebook and Twitter pages as "an entirely new level of idiocy.”

"Such a great message for the young music lovers at Ultra. Quite the (expletive) philanthropist. But hey, at least you're hip and trendy!" Deadmau5 wrote.

It appears the Canadian artist and Madonna have now buried their feud.

After Madonna’s explanation Deadmau5 wrote, "Fair enough, I was just voicing my concerns as I usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally,” MTV News reported.

"Communication is always best," Madonna wrote back. "You should have called me first, we could have cleared it up 'privately.' ;) See you on the road."
