Indie Movie Theater to Close Amid Rent Woes

One-screen, 99-seat theater slated to shut down

A movie theater in New York City that boasts one screen, 99 seats and a following among independent film lovers is saying goodbye.

The Two Boots Pioneer Theater in the East Village is slated to shut down in the face of a looming rent increase. The theater was founded 10 years ago to feature the best of independent cinema.

The theater organized quirky film programs, including the 42nd Street Smut Show and Luis Guzman Night, named after the Puerto Rican actor known for his work in "Boogie Nights" and "Traffic."

The theater is expected to close next Friday with a party, free movies and popcorn.
