9021-Oh, No

Lack of previews doesn't bode well for '90210' remake

With the enduring popularity of the original "Beverly Hills 90210," a reboot of the franchise with a cast of fresh faces seemed easy enough. Early indications, however, are that creators of "90210" have a real dog on their hands.

The show, a joint venture of the CW Network and CBS Paramount Network Television, won't be releasing preview copies of the show to reviewers before the show's 9/02 premiere. History shows this to be the act of a desperate studio that knows it has a terrible show.

How else to explain the decision not to let the press help generate buzz for the show?

"The CW and our studio partner CBS Paramount Network Television have made the strategic marketing decision not to screen '90210' for any media in advance of its premiere," read a statement released Monday. "We're not hiding anything -- simply keeping a lid on '90210' until 9.02, riding the curiosity and anticipation into premiere night and letting all our constituents see it at the same time."
