This is Major: Amazon Acquires Zappos

Amazon's got herself a shiny, shiny new pair of boots with the epic acquisition of footwear and apparel e-retailer, Zappos

The move makes the online shopping megaplex, Amazon, one step (ahem) closer to worldwide web retail domination, not to mention how much adding ten-year-old Zappos to its crown  it bolsters its standings in the fashion sector by adding the ten-year-old Zappos company to its empire.  In a deal estimated around $927 billion, a bargain price considering Zappos approximate $1 billion in sales last year, the conglomerates will join forces with Zappos operating independently from its home base in Las Vegas. Despite record profitibility in 2008, Zappos cut 1,600 of its workforce last fall - so hopefully this move will keep the site alive and kicking (these puns are just too much fun).

Needless to say, we're hoping for serious holiday sales and discounts as a result of this massive merger.
