Not Your Momma's Talbots Tote

Talbots, one of our mother's all-time favorite stores, has always been a tad "sweater set-ty" for our taste. Known for their no-nosense American work apparel and liberal use of shoulder pads, it was never really on our mass-retailer radar.

But with a new ad campaign starring supermodel Linda Evangelista, Talbots is seeking to attract a younger, savvier customer with an overhauled website, more playful merchandise—think sequin cardigans, leopard trench coats—and sophisticated slim-cut suiting. Best of all are the new accessories, which are classic but still on-trend with animal accents, leather tassels, and brass grommetting. Our favorite bag is the roomy leopard satchel in haircalf with plenty of space for all the random detreitus we accumulate during Fashion Week, and at $179, it's pretty tough to refuse.

The footwear is nothing to snark at, either: a silver pair of sneakers with thick black laces are dead ringers for Lanvin's signature kicks, and the faux-python skimmers in torquoise are perfect for keeping in your handbag in case of a high-heeled emergency. We realize you might still be skeptical, but give their new website a looksee, or visit one of the revamped stores.  Granny has definitely left the building.
