While most New Yorkers proudly regard their city as the reigning fashion capital of the world, every once in a while we have to hand it to the west coasters, especially when we're talking about American classics such as leather biker jackets and casual, t-shirt dressing—you know, those things that west coasters do wear rather well.
Based in Los Angeles, but bearing an identifiably French name, Le Petit Petit's chic wares and charming website are the perfect combination of style and whimsy. The recently-launched label offers up a small irreverent mix of Dolman-cut t-shirts, crop tops, racerback tanks, and super-soft sweatshirts enhanced with hand-scrawled images and whimsical phrases ("I left my heart in Paris. I left my heart in ice cream"), alongside amulet-style crystal "bullet" necklaces for warding off bad vibes (how very California).
But it's the label's leather jackets and vests that have us smitten and craving motorcycle rides along the Pacific Coast Highway. Crafted from supple lambskin leather, each one looks perfectly worn-in and ready for a ride into the sunset. We've been told the line will debut swimwear—another area Californians are experts at—next spring, as well as a new collection of similar, but lower-priced offerings dubbed Malibu Native. New Yorkers will just have to get past the name.
