Victoria Beckham Set to Launch New Dress Line

After enjoying both critical and commercial success with her high-end line of dresses and, more recently, handbags, megawatt pop star turned designer Victoria Beckham is set to launch a slightly lower-priced diffusion line, Victoria by Victoria Beckham for Spring 2012, WWD reports.

Inspired by emo-teen cartoon character Emily the Strange, the new Victoria line marks an ultra-girly departure from her more serious main collection -- a flourish her staff believes came about because Beckham is pregnant with her first girl (she's already got three boys).

"These are the kind of dresses I've been searching for," she told WWD. Loose-and-easy mod silhouettes, saturated colors and cheeky kitty and cloud prints define the line, which will retail between $550-$900 -- certainly not inexpensive, but situated firmly below her main line.

Victoria is just the latest addition to Beckham's empire with her husband, soccer star David Beckham, and their business partner, Spice Girls maestro Simon Fuller: According to the report, plans for the brand's first brick-and-mortar store are tentatively set for New York within the next 12 to 24 months.

For every development in the Beckham brand, expect the proper fanfare: The designer reportedly intends to make “quite a fuss when this launches at retail."
