Fashion students at Parsons don't typically build complete collections before their senior year projects, but mega-talented junior, Cid Leif, has already produced an entire lookbook, not to mention a jaw-dropping debut collection. The 20-year-old Miami native claims she's always "felt an innate pull towards art," and her creative instinct shines through in experimental pieces that walk the line between avant-garde and classically ladylike.
After poring over her lookbook pages, we're left with a wish list around two billion items long, including sleek asymmetrical parkas, a ruched floral print gown and a short velvet top with feather panelling at the front. Cid's personal favorite piece, however, is a pair of black silk charmeuse pants with inverted pleats "that conceal a very fine, foil-like panel in between" and a thrice-around belt embellished with a bow.
"I love to imagine someone who never hesitates to mix odd elements—perhaps a tailored piece contrasted against something more organic," Cid says of her ideal customer. "Though [my customer] is more their own person than who I am trying to make them out to be." With a name that sounds made to be printed on fashion labels, we're sure that Cid's burgeoning brand will one day come to epitomize risk-taking style that's still feminine and wearable, as in her lookbook opener, a simple jersey wrap-dress with a button-down skirt slit that can be left open to reveal an eyeful of leg—or not, if you're feeling shy.
