Thakoon Makes First Foray into Home Design with Edition01

Newly launched e-commerce site Edition01 commissions limited runs of affordable, custom designs made by some of fashion's favorite brands, from Cushnie et Ochs to Doo.Ri and Yigal Azrouel.

While the site mainly focuses on ready-to-wear, their most recent collaboration took a turn for the home category with a collection from New York designer Thakoon Panichgul.

Famous for his fashion-forward printed dresses, Thakoon lent his talent for statement-making patterns to a line of elegant pillows produced in conjunction with Ankasa, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia's luxury home goods label.

Asked how the collaboration came about, Thakoon told us that "[Edition01] was launching, and approached us about a possible first collaboration because they really loved the prints and fabrics that I use, and thought they would lend nicely to home goods."

The prints do translate quite well -- in particular a moody black and gray "Dakar print" pillow, which features a subtle chevron stripe.

The designer says he found the transition into designing for home "quite easy and natural," particularly because one of the core prerogatives of his brand is "to use textiles that integrate into everyday life, be it a dress or a pillow."

As many collaborations often signal a designer's urge to experiment in ways he or she may later explore in a more expansive way, there's a chance we'll see more housewares in Thakoon's future. "I think as a designer, you kind of imagine every possible thing you can design. That's the nature of what I do," Thakoon tells us.
