First Look: J. Crew's Fall 2010 Video Look Book

Back in April we got a glimpse of J.Crew's Grey Gardens-inspired collection for fall. Now that we've seen the Fall 2010 Look Book video, we're  even more in love. Creative Director Jenna Lyons, narrates a behind-the-scenes tour of the look book shoot, dishing on the inspiration for the collection, her favorite outfit, and even the lipstick color worn by the pouty waifs.

The story is "Edie Beale Goes to Summer Camp." Lyons elaborates: "What would happen if she actually popped up a tent and hung out in her backyard? What would her clothes look like if she took all the crazy stuff  in her closet and mixed it up with something from, you know, a campground?

As usual, Lyons styling is right on. The mix of textural, menswear-inspired staples (tweed blazers and fedoras) with glam jewels (rhinestone brooches), and boho touches (floppy flowers and shaggy vests) results in just the right feel for fall.

The colors are earthy, lots of browns and olives (more so than before, Lyons admits), but with punctuations points of color. One such moment is the Funny Face by Nars lip color, an electric pink they really loved.

One of Lyons' favorite ensembles is a camel poncho top over a blue and white check men's shirt, paired with a gold jacquard skirt and tights, accessorized with a shaggy bag with a gold chain strap, chunky jeweled bracelet, and old-school boots. We're groovin' on the shaggy stuff too, and are certain we'll be snapping up the accessories like crazy (again).

The collection starts appearing in stores mid-August. According to our personal shopper, J.Crew has changed its pre-sell system so that top shoppers can have early access to the fall collection. Pre-sell requests for August styles must be placed this week, those for September styles by July 9, and requests for October styles by August 13th.
