Rumors: The Soon-to-Shutter Lincoln Center Barnes & Noble May Be Replaced by Century 21

No sooner were reports confirmed that the Lincoln Center Barnes & Noble location is shutting its doors than rumors have spread over what will next occupy the massive space.

The 4-story bookstore, which has been an Upper West Side fixture for the last 15 years will close this January, however Racked, reports (via MyUpperWest) that the neighborhood will soon be seeing its very own Century 21.

The idea is definitely a plausible one, especially as the surrounding area is becoming a hotbed for large-scale chains of late, including a soon-to-open Trader Joe's and an Apple store.

What we find especially ironic is the fact that the behemoth discount fashion purveyor will be just a few blocks away from Lincoln Center, a venue which—as Fashion Week's epicenter for the next five years—is intended to symbolize and celebrate high fashion. Somehow we can't imagine Anna Wintour browsing the racks in between runway shows.
