It might be a few seasons past Alexander Wang's football and athletics team-inspired collection for Spring 2010, but if the frenzied sample sales and massive attention over the upcoming opening of Wang's first Soho-based store are any indication, Wang fans are forever frothing at the mouth for whatever the popular wunderkind's up to. And if the rumors are true, that hopefully means a collaboration with athletic giant Nike.
Mediabistro's design blog UnBeige recently tweeted: "A reliable source tells us that Nike is cooking up a major collaboration with fashion designer Alexander Wang." While we've been unable to reach Wang's PR folks for confirmation, the possibility of such a partnership isn't an unlikely one. In fact, it seems somewhat overdue considering Nike's competitors have been playing this field for a while now—Adidas' collaboration with Stella McCartney is a perennial crowd favorite for the brand, while Puma's recent team-up with Hussein Chalayan resulted in some seriously cool bags and footwear.
Though Nike may be a little behind on this trend, joining forces with Wang would be a major power play for the brand.
