The age of the expensive, brand-name jean truly is on the wane: Case in point, Rock & Republic, which just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy according to WWD. Daily operations, however, will apparently continue.
The Culver City, California-based brand helped pioneer the expensive, glitzy designer jean crazy in the early aughts and has grown into a relative mainstay at the upscale department stores. Evidently, however, the company had been suffering in their balance sheets and decided to file for bankruptcy as a means to getting back on their feet financially.
Rock & Republic execs insisted the motion does not indicate the brand's demise and that they'll continue to focus on apparel and footwear. Call it a blue-jean-bailout, if you will.
