Rei Kawakubo Reinterprets the Hermès Carré Scarf

Visionary designer Rei Kawakubo (creative director of Japanese label, Commes des Garcons), has announced a new collaboration with the luxury French label, Hermès.

The collaboration—appropriately dubbed "Comme des Carrés" will include two limited-edition Hermès "carré" created by Kawakubo.

The designer told WWD that she was interested in "the beautiful ‘artworks’ that the designs on Hermès carrés represent." To put her signature twist on the look, Kawakubo experimented with more abstract motifs.

“I have always had an immense respect for Hermès’ tradition and artisanal know-how,” Kawakubo told WWD.

Slated to hit stores early Februrary, the first edition of the collaboration will feature five moody black and white designs which wil be available exclusively in Commes des Garcons' New York, Paris and Tokyo locations.

The second, "Coleurs"—which will be available in the brand's London and Tokyo stores—will feature splashy geometric patterns as well as Vichy checks and shirt stripes.
