Ralph Lauren Shows Oprah The Spectacular Teepees at His Rarely Seen Ranch

In a rare television appearance, Ralph Lauren gave Oprah -- who also happens to be his Telluride neighbor -- a glimpse into his family's picture-perfect world.

The two rode around the 17,000-acre Double RL ranch (double R's for Ralph and Ricky, Lauren's wife of 46 years) in a vintage 1948 Jeep, passing the teak fence posts Winfrey claimed she'd passed many times, wondering what lay on the other side. Oprah admitted she even used to pass the beginning of the fenceline and start watching her car's odometer to see how far Lauren's property actually stretched.

Winfrey cooed over a cluster of pretty spectacular Americana-appointed tepees, revealing that her first luxury purchase when she'd "made some money" was a set of Ralph Lauren bath sheets.

Later, with Ricky and the kids, the group chatted about growing up Lauren, from playing wiffle ball in the backyard to not getting free clothes, even if it was Ralph Lauren's own designs -- the company is publicly owned, though apparently the Laurens do get a discount. The designer also admits that his latest design project -- his daughter's wedding dress -- was a particularly emotional one: "I had to do something that was better than ever before," he says. "When you do something for your family or your daughter, I mean it's the only daughter I have ...  want to just give her something that she'd really treasure."
