We popped by the Pucci store in Fifth Avenue to survey the damage in the wake of a spectacular early morning robbery that destroyed the store's glass door and robbed it of $100K in goods.
Despite the rather imposing exterior -- a knock on the wooden replacement door will result in a door guard unfastening a padlock to let you in -- the atmosphere within the boutique is surprisingly calm, and the shelves still appear to be pretty well-stocked. We spotted a slew of Pucci's signature colorful dresses (and one rather fetching black ruched cocktail number) at the front of the store, where apparently the thieves (dressed all in black like "ninjas") has emptied out tons of dresses, handbags, sunglasses, shoes, and scarves only a day before.
According to the New York Post, the thieves broke through the glass door and took tons of designer merch from the front of the boutique within just two minutes before fleeing. Everything was caught on a security video, and the burglars were gone before the police even made it to the scene.
An e-mail to Pucci's PR hasn't yet been returned, but if we get any more details on the spectacular heist, we'll keep you posted.
