One to Watch: Jessie Hill

Down-under designers have been getting a lot of love from the fashion community lately, and the attention is well deserved: Aussie import Jessie Hill got her start as head designer for indie-fave, "Buddhist Punk," before founding an eponymous label in 2007. Since then, Hill has continued to turn heads with edgy, 80's-influenced garb that would be as appropriate in a Madonna video as on an NYC sidewalk.

Jessie's spring collection offers lots to love in the way of stripes, studs and ruffles, notably on a silky black bodysuit featuring sparkly structured padding at the hips. Other highlights include Beatlejuice-esque striped shorts, and seasonless staples like billowy semi-sheer blouses. Funkier fare is available in the form of slouchy printed jumpsuits, slashed satin trousers and racy crocheted dresses, all of which pair beautifully (as the lookbook proves) with clunky lace-up platforms a la 1983.
