One to Watch: ALC

With the holidays fast approaching, we've begun scouring the Internet for frilly/velvety something-or-others suitable for the upcoming festivities. So we were delighted to come across Andrea Lieberman's Holiday 2010 collection for ALC, offering an unusual amalgam of punky stripes, fine black lace, and cozy, perfectly-draped jersey.

ALC is definitely among our big "Ones to Watch" for 2011. Lieberman, who has styled everyone from Sean Combs to Gwen Stefani to Gwyneth Paltrow, specializes in no-fuss dresses and separates that still pop, or offer some kind of unexpected design twist. One of our favorite pieces from the Holiday collection, for example, is an easy black and white stripe cocktail dress with a flouncy skirt, but what makes it interesting is the fact that every other stripe is a panel of sheer black lace, creating an elegant (if slightly risque) Beatlejuice-y effect.

Like any good stylist-turned-designer, Lieberman knows how to round out a collection with simple, wear-it-everyday wardrobe staples, like a shrunken leather blazer in dark chocolate brown, or a cool draped mini-skirt in jet black. We're especially interested in the long-sleeved jersey dress in dove gray with a slightly twisted hem: the perfect no-brainer mini to layer beneath heavy fall jackets or snuggly cardigans.
