New York Shoe Designer Brian Atwood is Launching Handbags

New York shoe designer Brian Atwood has steadily gained a strong following for his flattering platform sandals -- most notably seen on the feet of his stylish collaborator, Victoria Beckham. (The duo even collaborated on a rose-gold shoe for her Spring 2011 collection inspired by Beckham's Rolex.) In 2010, the designer expanded his empire with the launch of B by Brian Atwood, a lower-priced collection.

Now, Atwood is expanding again by adding handbags to his spring collection. The bags, which include a white lizard-skin clutch and a dazzling minaudiere, will be sold exclusively through Gilt.com, according to WWD.  By Fall 2012, according to the report, Atwood will expand into larger silhouettes with his main handbags, and will also debut bags under his B by Brian Atwood label.

The exclusive Gilt partnership is an interesting move, as it signals the flash sales company is looking to complete more partnerships around exclusive, full-price sales with fashion brands. Atwood's bags, for example, are not exactly discounted on the site -- WWD reports they'll be priced between $1,050 to $1,850. For Atwood, to be sure, the partnership means a great deal of promotion around his first collection, and considering it's a limited debut, it likely won't distance him from current and future retail partners like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, or Net-a-Porter.
