Nearly 400,000 Counterfeit Uggs Were Seized in 2010

Deckers Outdoor Corp. stepped up its anti-counterfeiting game in the past year, and recently-released figures for its work on behalf of Ugg Australia are pretty jaw-dropping.

In a new WWD report, Deckers claims it engaged in 118 raids in 2010, including one spectacular seizure of 244,648 pairs in just one raid in China on December 23. According to the report:

Not including the Dec. 23 enforcement activity, 154,829 pairs of counterfeit Ugg-branded products were seized in 2010, a 245 percent increase over 2009. During the year, the company also successfully pursued a course of action that resulted in the closure of 4,783 websites that sold fake products, and removed 30,444 eBay listings that offered counterfeit goods.

Overall, we're not sure what's more terrifying: the number of fake Uggs out there to be seized, or the global lust for the frumpy footwear that would bring such fakes into being.
