Matthew Williamson to Launch Bridal Next Year

After cutting his teeth on a line of wedding gowns for Net-a-Porter, designer Matthew Williamson has announced a bridal collection under the label for 2011.

Williamson told Elle UK the small collection will debut at White Gallery bridal exhibit in May, and indicated it will resemble his usual eveningwear, but with a bit more "opulence":

“I wanted to create a bridal collection that is both a natural extension of the mainline eveningwear, but at the same time reflects the opulence of such an important celebratory event. The pieces are characterised by feminine, diaphanous silhouettes in richly embellished luxurious fabrics.”

If the Net-a-Porter selections were any indication, we can expect richly embellished, bohemian maximalism to rule the new line's aesthetic. Williamson's foray into the bridal market reflects a larger designer push into the area, and if this move is any indication, we can expect folks like Jason Wu (who also recently designed a one-off bridal line for Net-a-Porter) to follow suit.
