Know Right Now: Mew New York

We can't seem to get enough of prints this season, and new label, Mew--named after the "tiny, high-pitched sound a cat or kitten makes"--is cooking up some of the coolest we've seen yet. Founded in January of 2009 by designers Miki Ikeda and Wakana Koike, the brand aims to capture the paradox of "women, as well as cats" by balancing playful and sophisticated design elements.

The label's explosive colors and unusual textures are inspired by everything from beads to childhood playthings, which make their interpretations of familliar shapes like flouncy dresses, short culottes and blousy tops feel fresh and unexpected. We love the juxtaposition of a candy-colored polka dot top tucked into plaid trousers, or a red patchwork skirt with a sharp black coat. We've also wishlisted the layered navy gown with a spackling of bright blue beading, and a cotton jersey jacket with check piping that would be perfect for transitioning into fall.

Mew New York is carried at Factoriem on the Lower East Side.
