Gant by Michael Bastian to Introduce Womenswear

Gant by Michael Bastian will add womenswear to the collaborative effort, unveiling a collection for the other half that's sharper and a smidge more sophisticated than the guys' sportier spirit.

Just one season after a successful debut for Gant, CFDA menswear nominee Michael Bastian will unveil offerings for the ladies - one he reiterated to WWD was not simply a girl's version of the touch-football-on-Nantucket menswear he presented last season.  (Phew.)

The feminine side of the collabo aims to dress that dude's girlfriend, a woman Bastian sees as a dressed-up counterpart with a knack for slightly more adventurous fashion choices.

The spring 2011 collection was given the go-ahead after Bastian presented a few examples of what his Gant man's girlfriend might look like, encompassing 40-50 separates, dresses, denim and knits to a limited distribution at the men's line's same high end department stores.

Color us intrigued - after seeing the hunky fall 2010 models, we'll happily play along.
