Fashionable Breast Cancer Awareness Efforts Get Underway For October



    In tribute to October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the CFDA's Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) initiative and Ralph Lauren's Pink Pony campaign have both gotten off to fashionable starts.

    FTBC will raise funds and visibility with new collaborations, which include bullseye-embellished scarves by Carlos Miele, a capsule collection by Esteban Cortazar for Colombian retail chain Exito, an FTBC-brand "Toote3sie" makeup bag at Henri Bendel, FTBC bracelets by Ruby Kobo and Shashi and a Torn by Ronny Kobo T-shirt for Intermix.

    Other designers will support the FTBC cause by donating dough--Leroy & Perry by Marcia Patmos collaborated with KBL Eyewear on a sunglasses line benefiting the organization, while Cambria Cove is forking over the proceeds from the sale of iPad cases designed by Cynthia Rowley and Curve trade show and Jurlique skincare have both pledged gifts.

    Ralph Lauren, who actually founded FTBC 20 years ago, will also be commemorating the 10th year of his Pink Pony Foundation for breast cancer awareness with a campaign featuring 100 bloggers in the designer's latest Pink Pony Polo as well as a tricked-out auction in collaboration with Charity Buzz. Prizes range from polo shirts to bike trips with Lance Armstrong. One can bid for items or simply text PINKPONY to 501501 to instantly donate $10 to the cause.

    We'll also be sporting plenty of pink this month. It's a pretty color for an excellent cause, which is always fashionable.
