Crocs Sales Crossed the $1 Billion Mark in 2011

Despite its maligned reputation among the fashion set, Crocs exert a massive pull on consumers, to such an extent that the brand recently announced it will cross the $1 billion mark in terms of revenue for 2011.

According to WWD, the announcement sent Crocs' stock soaring, up 6.3 percent. Considering 2012 will be Crocs' 10th anniversary year, the announcement is quite the way to kick off the celebration.

Crocs shoes have long been a soft target for fashion folk, who take issue with everything from the shoes' clunky silhouette to its plastic-looking texture (it is, in fact, a proprietary material called "Croslite").The shoe does, however, have its cult fans -- Mario Batali, among them -- and the brand has started expanding into less clog-like styles including jelly-looking flats and even boat shoes. Considering this is an anniversary year for the brand, we wouldn't be surprised if new looks are on the horizon.
