After hearing reports that TJ Maxx signage had cropped up on the spacious former home of the Conran Shop next to the Queensboro bridge, we confirmed the news: The off-price chain is coming to 59th Street.
The announcement comes on the heels of some major expansion in the borough for TJ Maxx, including a recently-opened outpost on 98th Street and a newly-announced lease on a major space at 57th Street and 8th Avenue.
The sprawling space right next to the Queensboro Bridge at 59th Street and 1st Avenue is the former home of the forward-thinking, minimalist Conran Shop, which has now taken up a new residence in the basement of ABC Home north of Union Square.
No official date for the new TJ Maxx's opening has yet been established, but at this point the chain is setting itself up to have some rather nice book-ends established for themselves in midtown on west 58th and east 59th.
