Boutiques on Bowery to Close

The saga of Boutiques on the Bowery is long and dizzying: The space initially opened as the Bowery Bazaar, a well-intentioned, cool-looking store with the aim of highlighting 36 new designers. Alas, it never really got off the ground, and the shop closed right after the (apparently disappointing) holiday season, with plans to re-open with a whole new branding as Boutiques on the Bowery.

The plan was to re-open in March (new store windows and all), but now Bowery Boogie is reporting that the management has decided not to open at all, and the shop will be closing for good. Apparently, the store had even been slashing its prices by significant amounts, which is never a good sign. The Bowery of late has seen some major retail expansion, so this may be the first casualty of many upstarts on the block, though we'll keep our fingers crossed for other indies on the block.
