Bensoni: Ladylike Separates Get a Downtown Spin

The designers of Bensoni's strength really lies in their well-crafted separates -- short patterned jackets, pleated skirts, and swing coats -- but it's in the styling of their collection that they prove themselves to be singular.

It's true that the line of their pencil skirts or the perfect fitting of a plaid jacket with a fur trim lends their collection a retail-savvy quality that's tough to beat, but it's in combining a metallic skirt with a bright plaid, or mixing two wild prints together that they take on a more Marc Jacobs or Peter Som-like quality.

It's true that there are some missteps -- the ruffled dresses, for example, seemed a little off-key (dare we say a bit more Bebe than runway) -- but overall we're interested to see where this collection ends up in terms of stores. There are several pieces here we'd love to see in Bergdorf's or Barney's.
