Ann-Sofie Back for Cheap Monday

Last summer, Swedish designer Ann-Sofie Back was undergoing some major life-changes: she married her longtime boyfriend and, after ten years designing her eponymous collection in London, packed her bags to return home to Stockholm, where she was quickly named Creative Director of Cheap Monday.

Back, whose design signatures include slinky dresses, drawstrings, sheer tops and generous servings of glitter, was recruited in an effort to strengthen the Cheap Monday brand identity through all things not denim, which remains the domain of company founder, Orjan Andersson. For Spring 2011, Back's first complete collection for the brand, the designer pushed herself into unfamilliar territory, and told Style.com that "latin denim and LA celebrity trends" served as primary sources of inspiration.

From what we can tell, the collection is indeed trendy (cropped sheer tops, long drapey skirts), but still shows restraint and refinement, as in some of the long color-blocked gowns and draped jumpsuits. By far our favorite look is Back's most minimal: a pair of classic cropped black overalls worn over a sheer long-sleeve top. We look forward to seeing spring looks from her main collection, Ann-Sofie Back, which will show in London next month.
