Martha Stewart Tells Andre Leon Talley How to Make Vichyssoise, Talley Tells Stewart the Value of a $60,000 Coat

Vogue's irreplaceable Andre Leon Talley was a guest on the Martha Stewart Show today, during which the two iconic figures discussed fashion and soup.

Stewart wore Marni for the occasion and ALT, of course, donned one of his signature capes. Before cooking commenced, the two discussed the merits of both Proenza Schouler's $60,000 aligator skin coat (Martha: "But what young woman can afford that? Although, I suppose it's something you'll have forever.") and a new look from Rachel by Rachel Roy (ALT: "Stripes are IN! Not prison stripes, mind you!"); DVF's recent award from Savannah College of Art and Design (pronounced Sa-VAUGHN-ah by both) and fashion week's move to Lincoln Center.

And then, in a coup we imagine only the powerhouse of Martha Stewart can accomplish, ALT revealed his domestic side. The recipe for the day was vichyssoise, a fancy word even for ALT, who rebuffed the notion of sophistication by turning up his nose and saying, "Well, gosh, I just call it potato leek soup."

And with that, cape and all, the incomparable fashion plate went into the kitchen to peel potatoes and whip some up.
