We expect nothing less than over-the-top from Kanye West, so the custom Balmain he's rumored to be wearing on his upcoming tour promises to be spotlight-grabbing.
West has longed to—or, perhaps more accurately, felt entitled to—wear his share of the label, calling out Balmain in his rap lyrics ("soon as I got salad / I spent it all on dressing / French to be exact / that Balmain was impressive), in addition to making himself a front-row fixture at the label's runway shows. This isn't West's first time to the rodeo when it comes to custom designer goods, either: For his lengthy music video, "Runaway," West commissioned Phillip Lim to design a series of custom outfits, including one killer tuxedo jacket
At first, we envisioned Kanye stepping on stage in bespoke gold costumes reminiscent of Balmain's fall 2010 women's collection, but if the Lim pieces were any indication fo his current look, the final results will likely be a bit less gaudy.
