On a drizzly afternoon, with Phillip Lim and Karolina Kurkova in the front row, Richard Chai presented 40 looks for his new, lower-priced women's collection, and we've got to say, we're impressed -- especially when one considers the pieces will range from $50-$425.
The entire collection bore Chai's signature stamp -- clean, effortless, and sophisticated -- and definitely had some nods to grunge mixed in with the leisure suiting. Steel blues and grays reigned the separates -- crinkled cotton parkas, jackets, and drastring pants and skirts, while mixed in there was a stunning print that looked somewhere between night sky celestial and old-fashioned splatter paint.
Full disclosure: Our favorite part of the show was the PR folks breaking out iced buckets of beer for all the editors following the show. Genius, and much needed.
