From the Tip Line: Ralph Lauren Building on Madison Gets a Facelift

We love a good tip. So when we caught titterings that Ralph Lauren's flagship Madison Avenue store was packing up merchandise and closing down shop -- in broad daylight, no less -- we hit the street to investigate.

Lately, sudden apparel store clear-outs have come to be synonymous with, well, bed bugs. (At least, our tipster thought it worth mentioning.) Fortunately for the Polo-wearing folk of the Upper East Side, our snoopings lead us to believe that in this case, the coast -- er coat rack -- is clear. Both the salmon Polo'd employee and the hard hat-wearing, circle saw-toting contractor we chatted with assured us that they are only closed while the building (a.k.a.Rhinelander Mansion) undergoes minor renovation.

Take heart, prepsters. Reportedly, it'll be back to business as usual come Thursday morning. If we hear different, you'll be the first to know.
