Opening Ceremony's Ace Outpost Will Be “a Completely Different Situation”

According to co-owner Humberto Leon, the branch of Opening Ceremony opening in the Ace Hotel come February will be "a completely different situation" compared to its current downtown shop. As he told WWD, it will be more like "the ultimate hotel shop," featuring everything from a McSweeney’s bookshop to snacks and specialty designer collaborations.

Leave it to Leon and his partner Carol Lim to stock a variety of quirky international fare over straight-up fashion -- according to WWD, the duo are currently on the prowl for everything from "specialty toothpaste" to "the best gummies from France." The store is also looking to service the clientele at the hotel with in-room essentials like Criterion Collection DVDs and, ahem, Proper Attire condoms.

As far as fashion goes, the store will stock an "edited collection" of the under-the-radar designers and beloved indies for which Opening Ceremony's Howard Street outpost has become so well-known. The most enticing style elements, however, will likely come in the form of the store's signature designer collaborations, from a Proenza Schouler Dopp kit to an Alexander Wang tote bag. Basically, everything the ultimate cool-with-a-capital-C jetsetter would need.
