Marc by Marc Jacobs: Spring 2010

As fashion week marches on, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 collection swoops in with a smash, bang and a twist.  We haven't been this giddy since we pined for Vanessa Huxtable's killer outfits on the Cosby Show, headband and all.

Yes, the collection reminded us of Vanessa, but more like a Vanessa thrown into a happy pill-spin cycle with granny's afghan and plopped smack down into the Mad Hatter's tea party...in the Lower East Side, circa the next few seasons, once it's really sunk in with the kids.  With all the airs Jacobs characteristically musters, the spring 2010 collection freebases patterns and prints, mixing jumbo dots, yellow leopard (on dudes too!), stripes, plaid and Kool-aid color-infused Laura Ashley florals.  Floppy headbands tied up with a bow topped models' heads, bags got hearts, while shoes got in on the action, too, with rainbow bright satin sandals and brown ankle boots we already know we want.  The palette spanned a spectrum of jewel tones that seemed a bit heavy to carry into summer, but bright enough to send the spirit soaring.  These pieces will put the sartorial sensibilities of the wearer somewhere between an acid trip and a sugar high, or at the very least a big breath of fresh spring air.

Heck, the collection was such a throwback to irreverant, ragamuffin youth even Karlie Kloss (who is still quite youthful at 17) softened up her cracked out death stare to smile a smidge.
